About the Artist - Qi Baishi

Qi Baishi (1864–1957) was a prominent Chinese painter born in Xiangtan, Hunan province, during the Qing Dynasty. He began his artistic pursuits as a carpenter, only taking up painting seriously in his forties. Despite being largely self-taught, Qi Baishi became one of the most celebrated Chinese artists of the 20th century.

Known for his distinctive style and innovative approach, Qi Baishi specialized in traditional Chinese subjects like birds, flowers, and insects. His work often combined traditional ink techniques with a more expressive, free-form approach. Qi Baishi's artistic brilliance gained widespread recognition, and he served as the President of the Beijing Art Academy.
