About the Artist - Maurice Chot-Plassot

Maurice Chot-Plassot (1929-2016) was a notable French engraver, born in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France. He studied at the École Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he distinguished himself by winning the prestigious First Grand Prix de Rome for engraving in 1958. Following a three-year stint in Rome, he served as the head of the engraving workshop and a professor at the Valenciennes academic schools from 1962 to 1988.

Chot-Plassot initially worked with a burin and line etching, later transitioning to creating captivating landscapes using pure aquatint. His large-format works, characterized by rigorous construction and flexible geometry, showcased his artistic versatility. Notably, his pieces can be found in various esteemed institutions such as the Bibliothèque nationale de France (BNF) and the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris.

Recognized for his contributions to the art world, Chot-Plassot's mastery extended to etchings and xylographs.
