About the Artist - Agueda Lozano

Agueda Lozano is a Mexican painter and sculptor born in Cuauhtémoc, in the state of Chihuahua. She studied at the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León before going on to build a career that bridged two countries and artistic worlds: Mexico and France.

From the 1970s onward, Lozano became a fixture of the exhibition circuits in both nations. In Mexico, her work was shown at major institutions including the Museo del Palacio de Bellas Artes, the Museo Rufino Tamayo, and the Museo Cabañas in Guadalajara, as well as cultural centers and museums in Chihuahua and Ciudad Juárez. In France, she exhibited widely throughout the 1970s and 80s, at the Centre Culturel du Mexique and the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts in Paris, and at galleries and salons in cities including Bordeaux, Biarritz, Saint-Malo, and Vitry-sur-Seine. Her work also appeared in international group shows, including a sculpture exhibition in Monte Carlo and biennials connecting Latin American artists.

Lozano's practice moved fluidly between painting, sculpture, and works on paper, and her pieces from this era, bold, gestural, and often abstract, capture a moment when Mexican and Latin American artists were gaining wider visibility on the European stage.
