About the Artist - Li Jagyong
Li Jagyong (born 1943) is a Korean-born artist whose practice spans geometric painting, architectural sculpture, photography, and printmaking, with a particular focus on producing and publishing serigraphs (screenprints). He trained at Seoul University, earning a degree in art and literature, before continuing his studies at the Beaux-Arts University in Toulouse, France, where he majored in painting and graduated in 1970.
Around that same period, he was associated with the Korean avant-garde art scene, taking part in group activities alongside artists such as Kang Kukjin, Kim Kulim, and Jung Kangja. Figures connected to Korea's experimental Avant Garde movement of the early 1970s. Jagyong went on to build a career rooted in constructed abstraction, working primarily in France. His screenprints, often geometric and rendered in bold color.
