About the Artist - Max Hayslette
Max Hayslette, born on June 11, 1929, in Rupert, West Virginia, is a prominent American painter, exhibit designer, and graphic artist. Displaying artistic talent early, he exhibited in local art shows while still in high school. After graduating as valedictorian in 1948, Hayslette studied at the American Academy of Art and the Art Institute of Chicago under notable teachers like Egon Weiner and Alexander Archipenko.
In 1961, Hayslette moved to Seattle, where he joined Martin Berg and Associates. Over the next decade, he contributed to major exhibits for companies such as Boeing, Mitsubishi, and Georgia-Pacific, gaining recognition for his work on World's Fair pavilions, notably the acclaimed Australia Pavilion at the 1974 Spokane World’s Fair.
In 1973, Hayslette founded Olympus Graphics, producing large-scale limited-edition serigraphs. The company later became Grand Image after its acquisition by Larry Winn in 1984. While continuing to contribute to Grand Image, Hayslette focused on his own painting interests, showcasing his versatile style in solo exhibitions across the United States. His work is held in collections, including West Virginia University, where his extensive artistic contributions and career are documented.
