About the Artist - Jack Youngerman

Jack Youngerman (1926 - 2020) was an American abstract artist renowned for his contributions to the Color Field movement. After studying at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, Youngerman emerged as a key figure in the 1960s New York art scene. His geometrically inspired works often feature vibrant colors and dynamic shapes, reflecting his fascination with balance and composition. Notably, he co-founded the influential Green Gallery in 1960 with artists like Robert Morris and Frank Stella, providing a platform for emerging talents.

Youngerman's art has been showcased in numerous solo and group exhibitions, earning him acclaim for his innovative approach to abstraction. His "Towers" series, characterized by towering vertical forms, remains a highlight of his career. Beyond his artistic achievements, Youngerman's influence extends to his advocacy for artists' rights. In the 1970s, he played a pivotal role in establishing the Artist's Reserved Rights Transfer and Sale Agreement, safeguarding creators' interests in their works.
