Dimitri Petrov (1919-1986) was a Dada and Surrealist painter, printmaker, and editor born in Philadelphia. Known for his association with the Woodstock Artists Association, Petrov was also the editor of the surrealist newspaper "Instead" and co-publisher of "Letter Edged in Black."
Petrov's career included exhibitions at prominent institutions such as the Art Institute of Chicago, the Pennsylvania Academy, the Corcoran Gallery, and the Whitney Museum of American Art. He studied under Stanley Hayter and participated in exhibitions at notable galleries like Hugo Gallery in New York City, Stravinsky Gallery, and Maeght Gallery. His works are held in various collections, including the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and many universities and museums across the United States.
