About the Artist - Claude Piechaud

Claude Piechaud was a French artist born in 1928 who worked as a printmaker, passing away in 2008. He was an engraver whose work inspired his son Guillaume Piéchaud to pursue an artistic career as well. Piechaud devoted much of his artistic practice to etching, producing a substantial body of work over his eight-decade lifespan. 

His artistic practice focused on printmaking, with themes centered on everyday life and vehicles. He created numerous etchings with evocative titles, including works titled "Débarcadère," "Mouillage," "Chimères," "Hypocampe," and "Séchage des filets," which suggest an interest in maritime and natural imagery alongside more abstract subjects. His technical skill in etching technique became a legacy that influenced his son's artistic development. 

Claude's son Guillaume graduated from the École Boulle in 1988 and went on to become a renowned sculptor and designer, working in precious metal engraving before establishing his own distinctive artistic practice. The Piechaud family thus represents an intergenerational artistic lineage, with Claude's pioneering work in printmaking laying groundwork for his son's innovative explorations in sculpture and design.
