Born in Alexandria, Egypt, Cortot moved to France at a young age and studied at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris. He was a member of the artistic group “Les Mains Éblouies,” which sought to break traditional boundaries in art.

Cortot’s work is characterized by his use of calligraphy and poetry, incorporating written words into his abstract compositions. He collaborated with several poets, including René Char and Yves Bonnefoy, turning their verses into visual art.
