Enrolling at the Beaux-Arts d'Angers in 1936 and later in Paris, he studied under sculptor Jean Boucher. Arrested in 1940 during a student demonstration, he captured his experiences through drawings. Commère's art evolved, embracing Fauvist influences, Pont-Aven, and Matisse. He explored vibrant color schemes, particularly during his \"Yellow Period\" in the 1940s. Achieving recognition in the 1950s, he participated in major exhibitions, earning accolades such as the Otho Friez Prize in 1952. Commère continued to paint, exhibit globally, and receive honors, including being made an Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters in 1978.
