About the Artist - Bram Van Velde
Bram van Velde (1895–1981) was a Dutch abstract painter born in Zoeterwoude, Netherlands. Initially influenced by Expressionism, he later developed a unique, vibrant style of non-figurative painting. Financial struggles and exile in France during World War II shaped his work’s introspective tone. Encouraged by poet Samuel Beckett, Van Velde gained recognition in postwar Paris, exhibiting alongside leading abstract artists. Despite late success, he remained deeply reclusive. His work, characterized by bold colors and dynamic forms, is now celebrated in major European museums.
