Michelangelo Pistoletto (born June 23, 1933) is an Italian artist renowned for his significant contributions to the Arte Povera movement and his innovative work in conceptual and performance art. Born in Biella, Italy, Pistoletto began his artistic career in the 1950s and gained prominence in the 1960s as a leading figure in the avant-garde art scene.
 
One of Pistoletto's most iconic works is the "Mirror Paintings" series, which he initiated in the early 1960s. These pieces, featuring life-sized figures on reflective surfaces, engage viewers by incorporating them into the artwork. Pistoletto's artistic practice extends beyond traditional mediums, encompassing installations, performances, and collaborations.
 
In 1994, Pistoletto founded "Cittadellarte," a foundation aimed at promoting creativity and social responsibility. Throughout his career, he received numerous awards, including the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the Venice Biennale in 2003.
