About the Artist - Peter & Traudl Markgraf
Peter Markgraf (1924-2008) and Traudl Markgraf (1925-2003), a Canadian husband-and-wife art duo known as MARKGRAF, gained prominence for developing a unique silk screen printing process in their Hudson, Quebec studio during the 1970s. Their innovative technique involved simultaneously placing two colors on the screen, creating a distinctive transition effect. It took them two years to perfect the smooth shading that became their signature. Initially focusing on non-objective abstract works, the couple transitioned to West Coast landscapes upon moving to British Columbia. Over a decade on the Sunshine Coast, they produced around 200 editions, predominantly featuring British Columbia scenery. Their editions, numbering 100 to 150 signed and numbered prints, along with artist's and printer's proofs, were highly sought after, capturing the beauty of the Canadian landscapes.
