About the Artist - Carlos Davila

Carlos Davila, born and educated in Lima, Peru, hails from a family of artists. After obtaining his MFA from La Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes, he contributed to the reconstruction of the ancient Pre-Colombian city of Chan-Chan in northern Peru. Before immigrating to the United States, Davila exhibited and traveled extensively in Europe. In New York City, he attended the Pratt Graphic Center and the Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop, residing in Greenwich Village.

Renowned for his abstract works characterized by clarity and definitive statements, Davila's paintings feature rectangles, circles, and lines enriched with subtle, vibrant colors. His art communicates an individualistic message, showcasing his mastery in combining shape and color for visual delight. Richard Brown Baker praised Davila's control and artistic prowess in 1975, stating that his paintings require no commentary.

Carlos Davila's artistic journey continued with exhibitions across the United States, South America, and Europe. Currently residing in Bridgeport, Connecticut, he works in a studio loft within a converted factory, alongside his artist wife, Jane. His career reflects a fusion of Peruvian heritage, European influence, and the dynamic art scene of New York City.
